County ZBA to meet about solar farm on Thursday

A special meeting is scheduled for April 5 to continue discussion on proposed changes to the county zoning ordinance to address solar farms.
The Champaign County Zoning Board of Appeals meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Brookens Administrative Center in Urbana.

Director of Development Patrick Brown met on April 26 with the Sidney board of trustees and concerned residents to present a redesigned plan for his company’s solar farm installation.   Attorney Pat Fitzgerald from Meyer Capel was also present to discuss the tax impact of the solar farm on the area, which BayWa has named the “Prairie Solar” project.

SIDNEY —The Village of Sidney approved a lease with the Sidney American Legion for two rooms at 221 S. David St.  The lease was approved with all trustees voting in favor at their Monday meeting.

Unit Seven Schools will hold centralized registration at Unity Junior High for all Pre-K through 8th-grade students on Thursday, August 2nd from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. On Friday, August 3rd, registration will take place from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at each attendance center.

SIDNEY —The abandoned lot at the edge of Sidney, long used as an illegal dumping ground, is now looking pretty good.  Sidney Township took possession of the property located at 2141 County Road 1000 North and has embarked on a massive job of cleaning it up.

URBANA—It’s a lot of driving around observing, listening and checking things out.  The job is never the same from one minute to the next, and all plans tend to go out the window during the course of a shift.  For one evening in mid-July, I drove along with Champaign County Sheriff’s Deputy Deron Brize for the 3 - 11 p.m.
